Mr. Whitaker and business partner, Douglas Rawson, opened the doors of Whitaker & Rawson in May of 1996.  The two have a combined 45 years experience in the consulting engineering business. Mr. Whitaker has extensive experience in all building classifications.  He is extremely proficient at designing mechanical systems for a wide range of building types including educational, commercial, churches, industrial, and hospital facilities.

Before forming W&R, Mr. Whitaker was an Associate at the firm, Miller & Weaver, Inc. and a Project Engineer for Tropicana Products, Inc.
 
Specific Project Experience
The University of Alabama, Science and Engineering Complex
 Tuscaloosa, AL 
A 215,000 SF, $60 million project.  Project includes classrooms, chemistry and biology laboratories and an addition to a large central energy plant with chillers and boilers. 

The University of Alabama, Bryant Hall Dormitory & Dining Facility
Tuscaloosa, AL 
A 60,000 SF, 4-story dormitory with 152 beds and an 8,000 SF dining facility.  There are a total of 50 two or four bedroom suites, each served by a separate air conditioning system.  The air conditioning system consists of an air handler with hot water coil and DX evaporator coil with an outdoor condensing unit.  Hot water for heating is provided by 2 central gas fired water tube boilers with a primary-secondary variable speed pumping and pipe distribution system.  Total construction $8.7 million.

First Baptist Church
Trussville, AL
HVAC, Plumbing and Fire Protection design for a 67,000 SF, 2,300 seat sanctuary and connector building.  Total construction costs of $6.2 million.

Berry Middle School
Hoover, AL
A 546, 000 SF middle school consisting of two 3-story buildings with classroom wings, administrative areas, cafeteria, gymnasium and competition gymnasium.  HVAC system consists of water source heat pumps with fluid coolers and an electric boiler.  Total construction cost $24.3 million.  HVAC and Plumbing cost of $4.5 million.

Mr. Rawson and business partner, Daniel Whitaker, opened the doors of Whitaker & Rawson in May of 1996. The two have a combined 45 years experience in the consulting engineering business.  Mr. Rawson has extensive knowledge with regard to HVAC and Plumbing design.  His responsibilities include calculating heating and cooling loads, selecting and designing HVAC systems, coordination with all consultants, aid on construction administration and site observations.  He has worked on a wide variety of property types including commercial, educational, churches, and hospital facilities.
Before forming W&R, Mr. Rawson was a Senior Project Manager for the firm, Miller & Weaver, Inc.

AmSouth Center Roof Mounted Chiller Replacement/Central Plant Renovations
Birmingham, AL 
The AmSouth Center is a 30-story corporate office building located in downtown Birmingham.  Electro-Mechanical systems in the 30-year old building needed an upgrade due to age, changes in modern office environment and end-user requirements.  The engineers were challenged to produce unique design and construction strategies to allow work without disturbing tenants and at the same time implement modern technology and energy savings techniques.  Work included:  Upgrade and modernization of ageing building infrastructure including chillers, cooling towers, piping, air distribution, domestic water controls, and electrical distribution. Total construction cost $18 million.

Spain Park High School
Hoover, AL
New 362,000 SF high school for the Hoover School System.  Included a 1,200 ton closed loop condenser water system.  Total construction cost $42 million.  HVAC and Plumbing costs equal $4.6 million.

Auburn University Medical Clinic
Auburn, AL
New construction of approx 37,800 SF medical clinic including exam rooms, offices, procedure rooms, treatment rooms, nurses station, counseling rooms, work rooms, records storage, general storage, administrative and various support spaces for General Clinic, Women’s Health Clinic, Mental Health Clinic, Radiology, Laboratory, Pharmacy and Administration. Total construction cost $5.7 million. HVAC and Plumbing costs equal $1 million.
