The project also included a 160-seat, black box theater that serves as a drama lab space and second theater for the drama department. The project also provides a new entry and circulation corridor for the school that serves as gallery and pre-function space for the existing 1,000-seat theater and the new black box theater.
The mechanical system for the Fine Arts Center is a Variable Refrigerant Flow Zoning (VRFZ) system with outside provided by dedicated units. Outside air is tempered using sensible and latent enthalpy wheels prior to cooling/heating by DX/Indirect Gas fired systems. Renovated areas are served by a mixture of VRFZ/dedicated outside systems and rooftop equipment. Controls integration was performed for the entire Mountain Brook High School facility, allowing monitoring of all mechanical equipment in the new, renovated and existing areas via a web-based user interface.
