Infrastructure Renovation (formerly Amsouth Center)
The Regions Center is a 30-story corporate head office building located in downtown Birmingham. Electro-Mechanical systems in the 30-year-old building needed upgrade due to age, changes in the modern office environment and end-user requirements. The engineers were challenged to produce unique design and construction strategies to allow work without disrupting tenants and at the same time implement modern technology and energy saving techniques. Work included the upgrade and modernization of ageing building infrastructure including chillers, cooling towers, piping, domestic water, controls and electrical distribution.
Floor Upgrades
This project entailed the complete upgrade of all the office floors of this 30-story building over a period of 5 years, including executive floors. Work included new air distribution system, controls upgrade, sprinkler installation and plumbing.
Network Room / PBX
This project entailed the construction of a new Network Room & PBX located within the existing Regions Center. Due to high density loads a raised access floor with Hot Isle / Cold Isle concept were used, in addition to novel air distribution procedures. W&R was Prime Consultant on the project and duties included space planning, functional planning, HVAC, plumbing, pre-action sprinkler systems and FM-200 fire protection.
