name: McAdory Middle School

location: McCalla, AL

description:

A new 120,000 SF school with associated athletic fields and support buildings.

The mechanical system serving the majority of the facility is a water-loop heat pump system with rooftop and vertical packaged water-source heat pumps providing space/zone heating and cooling.  High-efficiency (condensing) gas-fired boilers and closed-circuit fluid coolers act as the heat sources and sinks for this system. The administration area for this building is served by a separate Variable Refrigerant Flow Zoning (VRFZ) system to allow the main mechanical system to de-activate during school vacations and evening hours, but still provide conditioning for the administrative staff.  Outside air for the facility and unoccupied more dehumidification control are provided by dedicated outside air systems which incorporate sensible and latent enthalpy wheels prior to cooling/heating by a water-source heat pump integral to the outside air units. Outlying athletic buildings are served by packaged rooftop AC units with electric heat and packaged through-wall units (PTAC's).
